Hi, by any chance do you know about how much it costs to get contacts (eye exam and the lenses) without insurance?

Oh, I wanted to comment one more time. Not to complain really, but the place that I went had previously made me new lenses for my glasses, but the next time I went in they told me that they changed there policy and couldn’t do work on Gucci that weren’t bought in Japan. Um,.. that falls under wth? Ah actually at this point I’m looking for a new pair. Really expensive as you would expect.. ugh. Not happy, but looking forward to the challenge. 😀

I have been looking around for about 4 years, but I guess I am not looking hard enough. Some places refused to even replace my lenses because I had Gucci frames from the US and since I did not buy them in Japan they would not do it. Things are crazy here sometime.

    Right on

    Thank you so much! 😀

Hmm, when I moved to Tokyo I knew one girl who was moving there at the same time as me, but I first met her in Osaka when I was going to high school. Everyone else here I met just through going out and being social. 🙂

Not all places use the hands lenses, though. The last doctor I saw used the same equipment I’ve had used in the States.

Its cheap because the product is cheap. They use the small hand lenses to check your eyes like its the 1950s. Its old school and doesnt work well. One of my biggest complaints about being here. I can not seem to get my eye checked properly to save my life. Its cool that it works out for you, but man its really not working out for me.

I’ve also heard that going to the dentist is inexpensive in Japan as well. Costs an arm and a leg in America! Stupid healthcare system…

I love how wonderfully practical your tips are! Thanks! I’m blind as a bat too, so that’s brilliant to know for when I go back again ;D

I love your glasses, they are flipping adorable. <3 Thank you. My boyfriend and I are visiting Tokyo in a year, and we both wear glasses, and I'm particularly clumsy. Ugh. I need some durable glasses.

You’re so geeky about it…Love it.

Thanks for the tip, I have HUGE issues with glasses and since I live in the states, I had to buy brand name glasses in order to get decent quality. You’re right though, it’s pretty expensive to get glasses in the states, plus the frames too.

I live in Canada and I used to have the same issue. They only sell “brand name” frames. >_>
Now I order online through Zenni Opticals and it’s like 15-20$ per pair!
